Cement Board Installation
A tile finish needs a suitable, properly supported base. We review the specified backer-board system, panel layout and transitions before installation. Waterproofing responsibility is identified separately: water-resistant cement board by itself is not a complete waterproof assembly.

Is this the right service?
Unsuitable or unsupported tile backing that needs replacement or installation as part of a coordinated remodel.
- A bathroom renovation is ready for its tile substrate.
- A tub surround or shower requires a specified backer system.
- A tile contractor needs the base prepared before the next stage.
What we review in your scope
The written estimate identifies the surfaces, preparation and finishing stages included in your project.
- Substrate review
- Backer-board installation
- System-specific seams
- Waterproofing and tile handoff
From preparation to handoff
How the work is carried out
- 01
Review the specified system, backing and interfaces with adjoining work.
- 02
Lay out and fasten the board with system-compatible materials.
- 03
Treat seams and edges according to the chosen installation instructions.
- 04
Review waterproofing and tile handoff responsibilities before the next trade proceeds.
What affects the estimate?
A price based only on room size can miss important preparation. These details help define a comparable, realistic scope:
- Panel area and framing readiness
- Corners, niches and penetrations
- Specified board and waterproofing system
- Boundary between board, waterproofing and tile work
Before your assessment
Provide the tile assembly specification and the tile installer's requirements. Confirm the layout of fixtures, niches and penetrations before boards are installed.
Timing & finish expectations
Board installation must be coordinated with plumbing, waterproofing and tile work. System-specific curing intervals affect when the next stage can begin.
- A defined substrate scope for the tile installer.
- Coordination at seams, corners and penetrations.
- Clear responsibility for the waterproofing stage.
Discuss access, occupied rooms and the work of other trades before scheduling. Any additional preparation discovered on site should be discussed before the scope changes.
Questions about cement board installation
Is cement board waterproof?
Cement board is water resistant, but it does not by itself create a waterproof shower. The complete assembly and any required membrane must follow the selected system instructions.
Is tile installation included?
Tile setting and waterproofing are included only if expressly listed in the estimate. We define the handoff so those stages are not assumed.
Can you install around niches and fixtures?
The final layout and support should be confirmed before board installation. Corners, penetrations and transitions need to follow the specified assembly.
