Blue Board Installation
Blue board is a gypsum base intended for veneer plaster. The board, joint preparation and finish must work as a compatible system. We plan the panel layout and transitions before hanging, so the plastering stage begins with a properly prepared base.

Is this the right service?
New framing that needs a plaster-compatible base instead of a conventional taped drywall finish.
- Veneer plaster is specified for a new room.
- An addition will receive a plaster finish.
- Damaged wall sections are being rebuilt with a compatible plaster base.
What we review in your scope
The written estimate identifies the surfaces, preparation and finishing stages included in your project.
- Board-system selection
- Plaster-base installation
- Joint preparation
- Plastering handoff
From preparation to handoff
How the work is carried out
- 01
Confirm the board and plaster system and review the supporting construction.
- 02
Plan panel joints and openings before fastening the base.
- 03
Prepare joints and transitions according to the selected system.
- 04
Review the installed base and complete or coordinate the veneer plaster stage.
What affects the estimate?
A price based only on room size can miss important preparation. These details help define a comparable, realistic scope:
- Board area and ceiling access
- System requirements and substrate condition
- Transitions to existing plaster
- Whether veneer plaster is part of the same scope
Before your assessment
Share the intended plaster specification, drawings if available and the status of framing and other trades. Clarify where new work meets existing finishes.
Timing & finish expectations
The installation must be coordinated with the veneer plaster application. Site readiness and the selected system determine the sequence.
- A base selected for the intended plaster finish.
- Coordination between board installation and plastering.
- Attention to openings and transitions before finishing.
Discuss access, occupied rooms and the work of other trades before scheduling. Any additional preparation discovered on site should be discussed before the scope changes.
Questions about blue board installation
Is blue board the same as moisture-resistant drywall?
No. Blue board is designed as a plaster base. It should not be selected for a wet area simply because its face paper is a different color.
Can blue board be used with any plaster?
The base and finish need to be compatible. The selected manufacturer's application directions determine the preparation and coating system.
Do you provide the plaster finish too?
Blue board and veneer plaster can be scoped together. The estimate should identify both stages so the responsibility for the completed surface is clear.
